The thought behind this character 一文字への想い

My teacher once told me that one day I should be able to express my own heart with the brush. So when it came to the very first work for this site, I chose 心 — heart — as its theme, and poured a blazing passion into this single character. 師匠からいつか自身の心を表現出来るようにと伝えられ、このサイトの第一号となるテーマを「心」と決め、燃え盛る情熱をこの一文字に込めました。

About the character 心「心」という字

心 is read kokoro, and also shin. It means heart — not only the organ, but the mind, feeling and spirit together. Its ancient forms are said to have been drawn as a picture of a heart. 「心」は、こころ・しんと読みます。からだの心臓だけでなく、思い・気持ち・精神までを表す字です。古い字形は、心臓の形をかたどったものとされています。

It also lives inside many other characters about thought and feeling: 思 (to think) and 愛 (love), and, in its narrow form 忄, 情 (emotion). また、「思」や「愛」、偏の「忄」として「情」など、思いや気持ちを表す多くの字の中にも生きています。
