Shipping & Returns
What happens after you say yes.
One price covers everything: the framing, the crate, the courier, the insurance, and the certificate. There is nothing to add at the end.
What follows is the detail, in the order people usually ask for it.
Proof that it is real
Every work leaves with a certificate of authenticity, written in Japanese and English. It records the character, the size, the materials and the year, and it is signed by the calligrapher himself. No third party signs it, because no third party made it.
The certificate also matters at the border. Original works made entirely by hand are treated differently from reproductions in most countries, and the certificate is what shows which one this is.
The artist's seal is reproduced on it as well.
Size
The sheet is 68 × 70 cm. Framed, it measures roughly 80 × 82 cm on the outside. It is close to square, and it needs a wall that can hold that.
Packing and transit
The framed work is crated, shipped by international courier with tracking, and insured for its full value for the whole journey.
If it arrives damaged, the insurance covers it in full. Tell us as soon as you see it, and keep the crate — the courier will want to look at it.
Duty and import tax
Import duty, import VAT or consumption tax, and any customs handling fee are the responsibility of the buyer, and are not included in the price.
Rules differ by country. In many places an original work made entirely by hand is treated more lightly than a reproduction, and in the United States a shipment of this value goes through formal customs entry. None of this is difficult, but it is easier when you know it in advance.
More precisely: in many countries the duty on a work written entirely by hand is reduced, or removed altogether. In the United States it falls under tariff heading HTS 9701 and enters free of duty, provided the shipment goes through formal customs entry and the papers show that it was written by hand, one sheet only. The certificate that travels with the work is there for that reason as well. Import VAT or consumption tax may still apply, but the duty itself is, in most countries, nothing or very little.
If you tell us where the work is going, we will say what we know before you decide.
Payment
Payment is by bank transfer, and it is made before the work is dispatched. We send the details after we have spoken.
The work is held for you from that moment, and it is not shown to anyone else while we are talking.
Nothing is paid on this site, and we never ask for card details by email.
Returns 返品
Returns are not accepted.
There is one sheet. It was written once, and it is not written again — so there is nothing to exchange it for, and nothing to sell it as afterwards.
Damage in transit is a different matter, and is covered in full by insurance.
How long it takes
About three to four weeks from the day your payment clears.
Each work is framed before it is released, so it is ready to travel. Once your payment clears, it is packed into a made-to-size wooden crate and sent by international courier, insured for its full value.
Most of that time is building the crate and clearing customs. The flight itself is a few days. We tell you where your work is at each stage, and we do not go quiet in between.
